What is a martial art
In Japanese — judō, karate-dō, kendō — the shared suffix 道 (dō) means path. Not a move, not a grade, not a belt. A movement that continues outside the room. On the mat we learn to fall; in life we use that skill more often than we expect.

Etiquette
Bow on entering the room, and on leaving. Bow to your partner before and after the work. Clean uniform. A line to stand in. Silence when the coach speaks. These rules look like formality only until the child begins to respect them by choice.

The lineage
Jigoro Kano → Mitsuyo Maeda → the Gracie family → instructors across the world → FENIX coaches → students. Each one passes on not only the technique but the way the technique was received. That is the lineage. It is longer than any of us.

Pedagogy of the club
A child cannot be taught not to fear through lectures. They can be given experiences where they learn it themselves. A martial art is one such experience. But we do not make it harder than it needs to be. Sparring with a child is the last thing we add to the program, not the first.
